Trump’s EPA Blows Smoke for Fossil Fuel Cronies While America Chokes

Trump’s Coal and Gas cronies are celebrating their free pass to unleash unlimited pollution

In response to the Trump EPA announcing they are “reconsidering” several regulations finalized as part of the Biden-Harris administration’s multi-pollutant power sector strategy, including power plant carbon pollution standards, Evergreen Action Senior Power Sector Policy Lead Charles Harper released the following statement:

“Corporate polluters are celebrating today because Trump’s EPA just handed them a free pass to spew unlimited climate pollution, consequences be damned. The Biden administration put the first-ever carbon limits on dirty coal and gas plants, cutting toxic air pollution, saving lives, and avoiding $270 billion in climate damages. Rolling back these protections is a direct attack on the communities that have been forced to breathe toxic air from polluting plants for decades.

“These rollbacks aren't about lowering costs or helping workers. They’re about protecting billionaires’ profits and letting corporate polluters off the hook. The fossil fuel industry and its bought-and-paid-for allies in the Trump administration don’t care if families suffer from dirtier air, rising costs, or worsening climate disasters. These rules are popular because they protect Americans from unchecked pollution, and this reckless decision will face legal challenges. But no matter how hard Trump tries to double down on the dirty energy of the past, America’s clean energy renaissance will keep moving forward because it’s cheaper, more reliable, and exactly what Americans want.”
