Ahead of Donald Trump’s trip to Pennsylvania this evening to defend his disastrous economic agenda, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:
“Trump’s visit to Pennsylvania tonight is a desperate attempt to sell his fantasy of a booming economy. The White House is finally hearing what Americans have been saying for months: bills are rising, budgets are stretched, and working people are struggling. More than 100 million households nationwide have seen their electric and gas bills climb since Trump returned to office. That’s no accident. As president, he’s rigged the system for costly, slow-to-build gas plants and shoveled hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to coal barons, all while blocking the cheaper, faster-to-build clean energy that could actually lower utility bills.
“Tonight is pure damage control from a president who helped create the affordability crisis families are living through. If he cared about lowering costs, he’d stop sabotaging cheap clean energy. If he cared about helping families make ends meet, he wouldn’t be piling on tariffs that raise prices while he gilds the Oval Office and plans a grand ballroom. And if he cared about the people who put him in office, he wouldn’t force ratepayers to pay tens of millions of dollars to keep coal plants past their expiration date on life support. Trump won’t lift a finger to solve the crisis he created, but he’ll do everything he can to cover up the mess.”
