In response to the Senate invoking cloture on House Republicans’ continuing resolution, which, when passed, will fund the government through September while granting Donald Trump and Elon Musk sweeping control over federal spending decisions, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“The U.S. Senate just voted to enable Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s creeping tyranny. This bill does nothing to stop Musk’s illegal power grab at places like the National Weather Service, where he’s indiscriminately cutting jobs at an agency providing life-saving information during hurricanes and other disasters. It also does nothing to stop Trump’s unconstitutional funding freezes, which continue to effectively shutter critical government programs that millions of Americans rely on.

“Congressional Republicans have once again proven they are nothing more than a rubber stamp for Trump’s authoritarian ambitions and Musk’s reckless takeover schemes. And it is deeply disappointing that some Democratic leaders chose to capitulate in this critical moment. They had the chance to defend democracy and the American people. Instead, they chose to roll over.”
