Senate Banking Republicans’ Boycott of Committee Vote for President Biden’s Slate of Fed Nominees is a New Frontier in Climate Denial

In response to Senate Banking Committee Republicans and Ranking Member Toomey (R-PA) failing to show up for today’s markup in order to delay a vote to advance President Biden's slate of 5 nominees to the Federal Reserve, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“Today’s effort proved that Senator Pat Toomey and committee Republicans are willing to sabotage the economy for the benefit of their fossil fuel donors. Inflation rates are at a 40 year high. Wasting time on political stunts to delay highly qualified nominees will only exacerbate the significant pressures facing our economy. We thank Chair Sherrod Brown for holding today’s markup to highlight the hollowness of these political stunts. Senate Banking must now reschedule a vote immediately so that these nominees can move to the Senate floor and get to work on the economic issues most pressing to the American people.

“Economists and business leaders alike agree that this slate of nominees are highly qualified, and equipped to tackle inflation, mitigate climate risk, and protect our economy from emerging systemic threats. By drumming up bad-faith attacks and sounding a false alarm, Senator Toomey and his Republican colleagues are ignoring the threat that the climate crisis poses to our economy, and are engaging in a shameful display of climate denial.”
