Today, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt and the heads of five of the country’s other leading climate organizations sent a letter thanking New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for recommitting to implement congestion pricing and moving quickly to launch the program in early 2025. The letter comes six months after the executives first called on the governor to reconsider her decision to pause the program in June.
“We are so grateful that Governor Hochul listened to advocates’ concerns and recommitted to implementing congestion pricing. By moving forward with this program, the governor is demonstrating her commitment to strengthening the state’s climate legacy and building a sustainable transportation system that stays affordable and accessible for all New Yorkers,” said Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt. “Congestion pricing is a landmark policy that will provide a roadmap for states on how to tackle transportation systems’ congestion and pollution while also prioritizing equity and economic development. As New York continues to lead by example, we are excited to support the program’s implementation as a critical step forward for the future of the state’s public transportation system and climate goals, while bringing benefits to the entire region.”
