Full Throttle: Governors Launch Clean Cars Coalition Amid Federal Attacks

Today, 11 governors from the U.S. Climate Alliance announced the launch of the Affordable Clean Cars Coalition, a united front to preserve states’ clean air authority, support the U.S. auto industry and workers, and sustain America’s transition to more affordable, clean vehicles. The new coalition emerges one day after Senate Republicans voted to gut Clean Air Act protections in a direct assault on states’ authority to protect their residents from toxic tailpipe pollution. With the Trump administration and Congress working to undermine clean car standards, these governors are committing to develop and implement strategies that advance affordable electric vehicle (EV) deployment and safeguard public health.

In response, Evergreen Action States Vice President Justin Balik released the following statement:

“While extremists in Congress try to turn back the clock, today’s announcement makes one thing clear: we won’t let fossil fuel interests dictate our future. States are not backing down—they’re stepping up to defend their authority to cut pollution, lower costs, and protect their residents from toxic air.

“The fight is far from over. We applaud these governors for showing real climate leadership where Washington has failed. Evergreen looks forward to working hand in hand with this coalition to protect the air we breathe, support the auto workers powering the clean vehicle revolution, and ensure families have access to affordable, non-polluting cars. This is how we’ll build a healthier, more just transportation future for everyone.”
