Evergreen: Time For Biden To Finish the Job On Climate

In response to President Biden’s remarks during tonight’s State of The Union (SOTU) address, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“President Biden said it himself, we are up against the existential threat of our time. And the president has shown this year that he can meet the moment with bold action. The IRA is already revitalizing the American manufacturing industry while delivering billions of dollars in climate investments to fight climate change and invigorate communities nationwide. These investments and incentives have already created more than 100,000 new jobs, and catalyzed a new era in our climate and clean energy future. President Biden can’t waste his momentum on climate: it’s time for him to finish the job.

“In the last year, President Biden has done more than any other president in history to address the climate crisis—but he’s got more work to do to deliver on his climate commitments. President Biden will need to use every tool and authority at his disposal to get there. He’ll need to ensure effective implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and set stronger standards in the most polluting sectors of our economy. That must include swift action to finalize strong carbon standards for new and existing power plants, which we know can help get us on course to achieve the president’s commitment of 100% clean electricity by 2035.”
