EPA Approves California Vehicle Waiver, Securing Critical Climate Leadership

Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved California’s vehicle waiver for the Advanced Clean Cars II regulations. In response, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“The approval of California’s Advanced Clean Cars II regulations is a crucial win for public health, climate, and consumers. Granting this waiver was a smart play by EPA, upholding legal and scientific mandates to protect communities, and reinforce the state-federal partnership that helped advance clean air progress for decades.

“Governor Newsom has a nation-leading track record of setting ambitious clean vehicle standards, and these regulations will ensure California continues to drive vital economic, technological, and health progress even as the incoming federal administration is determined to drag us backward. The automotive industry is electrifying, and these rules will provide the necessary stability to help U.S. automakers remain competitive in an increasingly electric global market. They’ll also cut dangerous transportation emissions, direct EV infrastructure investment into frontline communities, and provide consumers more choice and affordability in their transportation options. Moving forward, we hope to see similarly clear industry direction and strong leadership from other states like California to support a prosperous electric transportation future.”
