Biden’s Proposed Budget Invests In America’s Fight Against Climate Change

In response to President Biden’s release of his 2024 federal budget proposal, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“President Biden’s proposed budget calls for critical and urgent investments in America’s future. During his time in office, former President Trump gutted the capacity of federal agencies working hard to combat the climate crisis, leaving committed public servants without the resources necessary to enforce key environmental standards. The devastating Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine is just one example of the risks that come from underfunding these agencies. Biden's budget would help turn the page on an era of austerity by investing in federal agencies critical to protecting America’s most vulnerable communities and the environment. Additionally, the Biden budget would toss out subsidies for oil and gas companies that are fueling the climate crisis. The Biden administration has already secured historic investments for climate and clean energy through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and the president’s proposed budget will end handouts to Big Oil and ensure that agencies, like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), are fully funded so they can implement the IRA’s investments and fully enforce existing laws to combat pollution.”
