After Trump’s Address, One Thing is Clear: His Big Oil Agenda Puts Special Interests First and Working Families Last

Following President Trump’s first address of his second term to a joint session of Congress, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s address to Congress made one thing clear: his agenda is dictated by billionaires and special interests at the expense of everyday people. His speech was filled with empty promises and lies about ‘unleashing American energy dominance,’ but his actions tell a different story. Trump is working overtime to dismantle clean energy progress, rig the system for his billionaire friends, and force working families to foot the bill. His administration’s drastic steps to block Congressionally mandated clean energy funding are driving up household energy bills and stalling or killing more than 42,000 jobs. Under his watch, energy costs are ‘tracking toward heights unseen’ as he sabotages the cheaper clean energy that can actually help lower costs.

“Trump’s latest scheme—a tax plan backed by his Republican allies in Congress—threatens to derail the once-in-a-generation manufacturing boom fueled by clean energy, putting hundreds of thousands more jobs and billions in investments at risk. Instead of boosting America’s energy independence, Trump’s fossil fuel free-for-all is sending us backward—toward higher prices, more pollution, and fewer jobs. The American people have made clear they want more affordable energy, not higher bills and economic uncertainty. Congress must act like the co-equal branch it is and reject Trump’s corrupt, deeply unpopular agenda—or risk paying the price at the ballot box.”
