13 Big Climate Investments in the Build Back Better Act

In November, the House passed the largest climate bill in history. Now, the Senate must make these investments a reality.

On November 19, the House passed the Build Back Better Act––including $555 billion in critical climate investments. That’s the largest investment towards climate solutions in American history.

Here’s another big number for you: The bill text for the Build Back Better Act is nearly 2,500 pages long. That’s longer than the first five Harry Potter books (or if you’re more of a Lord of the Rings fan, it’s about double the number of pages in the series). You get the point: It’s long.

So while you probably don’t have time to sit down and read the entire bill, our policy team does. They broke down the major climate investments it will make—if (and only if) the Senate passes the bill and delivers it to President Biden’s desk. And better yet, this video distills 13 of those key investments in less than 60 seconds. Watch:

We can’t overstate it: this is a huge moment. It’s taken decades of activism to get us here. If you want a more detailed breakdown (but definitely less than 2,500 pages), be sure to check out our memo that goes into more depth about each of these investments.

Here’s What You Can Do

Historic investments. Millions of good jobs building the clean energy economy. Environmental justice. Pollution reductions. Clean energy tax incentives. Civilian Climate Corps. A Clean Energy Accelerator. When we say this bill contains transformational climate action, we mean it.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats should be applauded for their hard work to deliver this down payment on America’s clean energy future (all House Dems except Jared Golden of Maine voted for it!). Now it’s up to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democratic caucus to take up this bill and deliver it to the president’s desk.

The Senate could vote on the Build Back Better Act before 2021 is over. That means your Senator needs to hear from you. Send a letter to them now.

This is our moment. Let’s get this passed and then keep building toward a thriving, just, and inclusive clean energy future together.
