Evergreen Statement on Trump’s 11th-Hour Stunt to Kill Green Bank Funding

Today, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin announced the unlawful termination of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grants—just hours before a court hearing on the Trump administration’s illegal blockade of the Congressionally appropriated funding. In response, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Trump and Zeldin’s 11th-hour move to terminate $20 billion in clean energy funding is a lawless, desperate political stunt ahead of a court fight they know is an uphill battle. They’re defying Congress and doubling down on this reckless scheme because clean energy is helping families save money—and that’s exactly what Big Oil fears.

“Their attempts to terminate this funding will raise energy costs for low-income households, stall job creation, and kill investments in home energy upgrades, community solar, and small business clean energy projects across the country. Trump and Zeldin are doing what they do best: spreading lies to sabotage a program that’s already delivering real economic benefits to protect the fossil fuel CEOs bankrolling their agenda. But the law is clear. Congress passed this funding, and it must go where it was directed. Trump’s assault on these clean energy investments isn’t just illegal—it’s proof he’s working for Big Oil, not the American people.”
